Abstract: 본 발명은, 복수개의 문자가 할당되는 적어도 하나의 버튼부를 구비하는 본체를 포함하는 휴대용 단말기에 관한 것이다. 본 발명의 휴대용 단말기는, 복수개의 변환단계를 갖는 슬라이드키와; 상기 버튼부에 할당된 복수개의 문자 중 상기 슬라이드키의 각 변환단계에 대응하는 문자정보를 저장하며, 상기 버튼부의 소정의 버튼이 입력되는 경우 상기 슬라이드키가 위치한 변환단계를 감지하여, 상기 입력된 버튼에 할당된 복수개의 문자 중 상기 슬라이드키의 변환단계에 대응하는 문자를 인식하는 제어부를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 한다. 이에 의하여, 빠르고 쉽게 문자를 작성할 수 있는 휴대용 단말기를 제공할 수 있다.
