Abstract: PURPOSE: Equipment for manufacturing optical fiber preforms by modified chemical vapor deposition(MCVD) is provided, which is characterized by having a reverse-flow gas supplying part, flowing gas into the opposite way to raw material gas for controlling the pressure inside the tube, unlike conventional equipment Accordingly, the equipment prevents shrinkage and diameter change of tube for deposition, which results in optical fiber preforms with graded refractive index. CONSTITUTION: The equipment for optical fiber preform manufacture contains the parts of: a raw material gas supplying part(520) for flowing O2 and raw material gas comprising SiCl4, GeCl4, POCl3, etc. into a tube(510) for CVD process; a base(550) for preform manufacture; a heater(560), moving along a guide (540), for heating the tube with O2/H2 burner or plasma torch; a pair of chuck(532, 536) on which each end of the tube are fixed for rotation; a reverse-flow gas supplying part(570), placed on the other side of the raw material gas-supplying part(520), flowing gas(N2) into the opposite way to raw material gas for increase of the pressure inside the tube. The optical fiber preforms are manufactured by the following steps of: heating a tube, flowing raw material gas into the inside of the tube for forming reactants, flowing gas(N2) into the opposite way to raw material gas for increase of the pressure inside the tube, which results in increase of tube outer diameter and prevention of irregular thickness variation of tube; and depositing reactants on the inside of the tube by thermophoretic mechanism.

Abstract: PURPOSE: Low bending loss optical fiber is provided to minimize light loss due to the change of a refractive index and bending by including a clad and to minimize broadband bending loss by forming optical fiber into a form which gradually reduces or increases the refractive index of a trench layer. CONSTITUTION: A clad(120) comprises an internal layer(121), an external layer(123), and a trench layer(122). The internal layer is arranged in the outside of a core. The refractive index of the internal layer is lower than the refractive index of core. The trench layer is arranged in the outside of the internal layer and has lowest refractive index. The external layer is arranged in the outside of the trench layer. The refractive index of the external layer is bigger than the lowest refractive index of the trench layer and lower than the refractive index of the core.
