    Abstract: A key handshaking method in a WLAN is provided to enable a security key for authentication to be exchanged once through one 4-way handshake between an authenticator and a requester in the WLAN, thereby preventing delay of the authentication process between the authenticator station and the requester station in the WLAN. A key handshaking method in a WLAN(Wireless Local Area Network) comprises the following steps of: generating a first nonce at the first station(S104); transmitting the first nonce from the first station to the second station(S110); receiving the second nonce from the second station at the first station, and generating a PTK(Pair-wise Transient Key) based on the second nonce(S108); and installing the PTK in the first station(S118). In the above PTK generating step, a GTK(Group Transient Key) is generated together with the PTK if necessary.
