Abstract: An apparatus and a method for providing a broadcasting service in a mobile communication system are provided to prevent an authorized user from watching some multimedia broadcast programs by executing an authentication process for a multimedia broadcast program requiring conditional access in the case of using a broadcasting service through a mobile terminal. A mobile communication system, which provides a broadcasting service, consists of a mobile terminal(100) and a multimedia broadcasting server(120). In case the authentication process fails, the mobile terminal stops the output of the broadcast program. If a broadcast change to provide the next broadcast program is confirmed after the present broadcast program, which is being provided to the mobile terminal, is completed, the multimedia broadcasting server confirms whether an authentication process is required for the next broadcast program. If required, the multimedia broadcasting server transmits a message to notify the mobile terminal that the next broadcast program requires the authentication process. An authentication management unit(104) compares personal authentication information provided from a controller(102) with the authentication information stored at the memory(106) of the mobile terminal, and confirms whether or not a user of the mobile terminal can watch a multimedia broadcasting.
