Abstract: A head slider and a hard disk drive with the same are provided to prevent HDI(Head-Disk Interference) caused by TPTP(Thermal Pole Tip Protrusion) by forming a disk facing surface of a write unit stepped down behind a disk facing surface of a read unit. A head slider comprises a slide body(151) and a magnetic head(160). The magnetic head is attached to one part of the slider body, and includes a disk facing surface(169) stepped down to a disk facing surface(153) of the slider body. The depth of PTR(Pole tip recession) from the disk facing surface of the slider body to the disk facing surface of the magnetic head ranges from 50 to 70% of the lowest height of the slider body in the conditions of ordinary temperature and sea level. The magnetic head also includes a write unit(165) and a read unit(161). A disk facing surface(169a) of the write unit is stepped down to a disk facing surface(169b) of the read unit. The depth of the PRT ranges from 4 to 6nm.
