Abstract: User interface configuration is provided in a portable terminal. A method for configuring a user interface includes: outputting a user mode selection menu in order to configure a user interface in the portable terminal: selecting a user mode from the user mode selection menu; receiving a user interface configuration value corresponding to the selected user mode from another electronic device; and changing the user interface of the portable terminal so that a user can directly access at least one function of the portable terminal on the user interface based on the received user interface configuration value. The user interface configuration value includes a menu priority configuration value included in a communication function, a display function, and a user mode of the portable terminal. The user mode menu includes a plurality of user modes including mutually different user interface configuration values. The communication function may include the information of an activation status of at least one communication module.
