Abstract: A portable terminal capable of performing remote control and a controlling method thereof are provided to control operation of the terminal in a remote place by interworking a remote control device with the terminal, thereby improving a user's convenience. A remote control device transmits a random key code in accordance with a user's request. A portable terminal receives the key code to recognize the received key code(S403). The portable terminal converts the key code into an operational code of the portable terminal(S405). Functional operation of output data is controlled according to the operational code(S407). The key code is a key signal generated from the remote control device.

Abstract: A bell sound making method in a portable terminal and a device thereof are provided to offer a function of making a bell sound by applying various effects to a predetermined section of an MP3 file in the terminal, thus a user can make a desired bell sound through a simple procedure only. A predetermined section is selected in a particular MP3 file(201-233). More than one effect is applied to the selected predetermined section(211,213). The predetermined section applied with the effects is converted into a file having a bell sound format, and the converted file is stored(215-219). The effects contain at least one of reproduction speed control, distortion, Doppler, echo, filter, offset, noise elimination, fade-in, and fade-out effects.
