Abstract: A band search and a cell selection method of a portable terminal efficiently using resources and an apparatus therefore are provided to omit a band search and selection process and reduce a load of the mobile terminal. The selection/reselection state(43) of the PLMN includes two modes of an automatic mode or a manual mode. The selection of the PLMN is determined by the set value in advance in the automatic mode(S401). In case of the manual mode, PLMN selection is indicated to user(S403). The information about the PLMN type is delivered to the PLMN selection information. If the cell is reselected as a selection, the information whether to transmit the selected PLMN is delivered(S413). If it re-selects as the cell selection and location is changed, it becomes the location registration state(45) informing the change of the registered location(S415).
