Abstract: A method and an apparatus for acquiring traffic information in a mobile terminal are provided to allow mobile terminals to provide location information to a traffic management server so that the traffic management server to easily provide nationwide road traffic situation information to each terminal. A terminal information detecting unit(106) detects server registration information among information of a terminal acquired from a GPS receiver(104). When a traffic information checking event occurs, a controller(100) transmits the server registration information to the traffic management server, and controls a function of requesting a road image to a terminal selected by a user on a terminal list received from the traffic management server. A communication module(102) transmits the server registration information to the traffic management server, receives the terminal list from the traffic management server, and receives an actual road image from the selected terminal under the control of the controller. An image processor(108) encodes an image signal inputted from a camera(110) and outputs the encoded image signal to a display unit(112) or the controller.
