Abstract: A washing machine and a method for controlling the same are provided to improve user convenience by not setting a washing course every time when using the washing machine. Abstract: A universal motor control apparatus is provided to obtain a wide speed variation range and a large torque by driving a universal motor through a chopper method. A control part controls the speed of a universal motor(108) variably by changing duty ratio of a first PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) control signal generated by the control part.
