Abstract: A packet switch device and a method thereof are provided to trap a small amount of packets to a CPU(Central Processing Unit) as possible among packets incoming until an updating process of a 3-layer table of an Ethernet switch chip is completed, thereby suggesting a method for driving "Neighbor discover" mechanism as reducing loads of the CPU. An Ethernet switch chip(22) has plural ports as well as a dummy port(222a) existing as a logical number only, and performs a switching operation of packets by comprising a 3-layer table(220) for storing information on corresponding connection ports and MAC(Media Access Control) addresses corresponding to IPv6(Internet Protocol version 6) addresses of hosts. If an MAC address corresponding to a destination IPv6 address of a trapped packet does not exist, a controller(21) performs a confirming operation as setting the MAC address corresponding to the destination IPv6 address, and updates the 3-layer table of the chip by connection of a host of the set virtual MAC address to the dummy port.

Abstract: A packet switch device and a bandwidth control method thereof are provided to limit bandwidths to zero for packets which are not assigned with IPs(Internet Protocols) to DHCP so as to prevent unnecessary packets from passing through a network, thereby efficiently using the network. A packet switch chip(22) has plural ports to perform switching operation of packets, and samples random packets according to the preset number of times to output the sampled packets. A CPU(Central Processing Unit)(24) conducts real-time management for databases of subscribers assigned through a DHCP(Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol), and performs bandwidth limiting functions for each user by confirming usage of the users of the packets if the sampled packets are provided from the subscribers stored in the databases.

Abstract: A dynamic SLA(Service Level Agreement) allocation method using a user authentication in an EPON(Ethernet Passive Optical Network) based FTTH(Fiber To The Home) system is provided to guarantee the same service level regardless of the position where a subscriber accesses a network, different from a conventional method where depending on an inputting operation of a manager. A dynamic SLA(Service Level Agreement) allocation method using a user authentication in an EPON(Ethernet Passive Optical Network) based FTTH(Fiber To The Home) system comprises the following several steps. According as a subscriber accesses an ONT by using keys, a user authentication procedure is performed among the subscriber, the ONT and a radius server(S410-S450). If the subscriber who accesses the ONT is normally authorized, a management server seeks for the SLA which is a service level in accordance with the subscriber(S460). The management server sets the sought SLA to the OLT, the subscriber is allowed to access a network if setting the SLA to the OLT is finished, and a bandwidth is allocation according to the SLA set to the OLT(S470-S500).

Abstract: A packet processing device and a method thereof are provided to switch incoming packets to a virtual dummy port without trapping the packets to a CPU(Central Processing Unit), to abandon the switched packets, thereby driving an ARP(Application Resolution Protocol) after minimizing a load of the CPU. If routing information corresponding to an IP(Internet Protocol) address of a destination host of packets transmitted from a random host does not exist on a routing table, a CPU sets virtual routing information corresponding to the IP address at the routing table, and generates an ARP request packet for obtaining routing information of the destination host, then transmits the generated ARP request packet to the IP address of the destination host(S101-S108).
