    Abstract: PURPOSE: A cell scanning method in a system having a plurality of antenna and an apparatus thereof are provided to scan at least one adjacent base station cell by using at least one receiving beam in a serving base station cell and the same frequency band. CONSTITUTION: A mobile station (MS) scans at least one adjacent base station (BS) cell by using at least one receiving beam in the frequency band which is same as a serving BS cell. At least one receiving beam used in the cell scan is the beam different from the receiving beam which is used for the data communication with the serving BS cell. The MS transmits the information about which receiving beams will be used for scanning at least one adjacent BS cell to the serving BS. The MS receives the configuration information related to the scan from the serving BS.
