    Abstract: An optical scanning apparatus, a control method thereof and an image forming apparatus are provided to form an optical beam through reciprocating scanning and achieve horizontal synchronization of an image section, which is disposed in parallel in a sub scanning direction, by applying one sensor. A beam deflector(400) forms an image section and a first imageless section and a second imageless section on both sides of the image section by recipocatingly scanning optical beams irradiated from a light source(100). A sensor(700) senses the optical beam which is defectively scanned towards the first imageless section. Based on a time period of a signal outputted from the sensor, a controller performs horizontal synchronization of the image section formed by the optical beam which is sequentially scanned in a first direction and a second direction opposite to the first direction.

CONSTITUTION: A light intensity transformer(210) changes a first beam of a first light source and a second beam of a second light source in different sizes. A photo diode(220) receives the first beam and the second beam and outputs the first signal. The first signal has a first level at the light receiving point of the first beam and a second level at the light receiving point of the second beam.
