    Abstract: PURPOSE: A positron emission tomography (PET) image acquisition system is provided to obtain a PET image and a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) image at the same time by additionally installing a PET detection unit on the normal direction position of a radio frequency (RF) coil cross section of a commercialized RF coil. CONSTITUTION: A first PET detection unit (120) is formed in order to surround an object. A second PET detection unit (130) comprises a collimator (140) on the normal line position of a cross section of the first PET detection unit. An RF coil unit (100) is mounted on a bed surface. The first PET detection unit is formed on the outside in a radius direction of the RF coil unit. A computerized tomography (CT) scanner takes a photograph of a CT image of the object.
