Abstract: The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition comprising alpha-iso-cubebene extracted from Maximowiczia chinensis as an active ingredient for preventing or treating an infectious and inflammatory disease. The composition of the present invention has sterilizing effect and in addition, an effect of inhibiting generation of pro-inflammatory cytokines and suppressing apoptosis of white blood cells. Therefore, the composition can be significantly used for treatment of the infectious and inflammatory disease like septicemia.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition or a food composition comprising alpha-iso-cubebenol extracted from Schisandra chinensis and a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as active ingredients for preventing or treating infectious and inflammatory diseases. The composition of the present invention has a bactericidal effect and, at the same time, lowers the production of proinflammatory cytokines and inhibits apoptosis of white blood cells. Thus, the composition can be importantly used for treatment of the infectious diseases and the inflammatory diseases like septicemia.
