Abstract: Quartz optical fiber comprises a synthetic quartz cladding and a natural or synthetic quartz core, the cladding quartz layer contg. 0.01-1, pref. 0.03-0.5 wt.% Cl2. Filber is made by depositing fine particle glass on the outer surface of a quartz preform by flame hydrolysis; heating in a Cl2-contg. atoms; sintering and drawing.
