Abstract: PURPOSE: A composition containing diosgenin or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is provided to promote proliferation, differentiation, and mineralization of osteoblast. CONSTITUTION: A composition for promoting osteoblast contains diosgenin or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. Diosgenin is isolated from yam. The concentration of the diosgenin is 1-3 uM. A composition for preventing or treating bone metabolism contains diosgenin or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. The bone metabolism is osteoporosis, bone metastatic lesion, rheumatic or degenerative arthritis, periodontal diseases, inflammatory bone absorption or Paget's disease. A food composition for improving bone function contains diogenin or pharmaceutically acceptable salt.
