    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a friction modifier that enables a stable additive concentrate to be formulated providing a significant benefit in friction loss when incorporated in gasoline used to fuel an internal combustion engine, and hence an improvement in fuel economy. CONSTITUTION: The friction modifier comprises an alkoxylated amine salt or etheramine salt of a saturated branched or linear carboxylic acid. The friction modifier has the general structural formula 1. In the formula 1, R2 and R 3 each independently represents a linear, branched or cyclic alkyl group, j is 1 to 20, A represents -(CH2)x-(where x is 4 to 20) with the proviso that each R3 is substituted for a hydrogen of a backbone carbon atom in A and no more than two R3 groups are bonded to any given one backbone carbon atom in A, R4, R5 and R6 each independently represents a hydrocarbyl group or a hydrogen atom, and q is 1, 2 or 3, and z and y each independently is 0 or 1, with the proviso that q is 3 where z and y each is 0, q is 2 when one of z or y is 1 and the other is 0, and q is 1 when z and y each is 1, with the further proviso that at least one of the R4, R5 or R6 is a hydrocarbyl group containing at least one alkoxy group or at least one ether group.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: A method for transferring the organic molybdenum passing through the vapor phase to a fuel burner from a lubrication resource is provided to reduce the deposits in an intake manifold including an intake valve and an exhaust valve by transferring the organic molybdenum into a combustion chamber. CONSTITUTION: An organic molybdenum resource is guided into the vapor phase in an engine from the liquid phase of the lubricating oil in a crank case(22) of an internal combustion engine. The organic molybdenum resource is transferred into a combustion chamber from the vapor phase through an intake manifold including an intake valve(24). The organic molybdenum resource is the volatilized vapor containing the organic molybdenum resource or small oil drops in the vapor phase of the crank case including the organic molybdenum resource.
