Abstract: PURPOSE: A method for operating a wide local area receiving service in a mobile communication system is provided to searching a receiving side mobile agent nearest a transmitting side terminal through a home location register when a certain terminal requests the wide area receiving service in a cellular/PCS communication network and connecting a call. CONSTITUTION: When a subscriber of a fixed terminal or mobile terminal requests a transmitting call using a representative number of a receiving side agent(ST1), the requested signal is transmitted through a terminal, a base station, a wireless network controller, and a mobile switch center. If the terminal which requests the transmitting call is a fixed telephone network subscriber, a gateway mobile switch center connected with the mobile switch center senses a call request message and receives the sensed call request message(ST2). The mobile switch center or the gateway mobile switch center requests a local receiving service to a service control device(ST3). The service control device requests a search of current location information of a corresponding mobile agent group to a home location register of corresponding mobile agents based on a mobile agent group list in which location information is previously registered(ST4), and requests location information of a corresponding agent group to the home location register. The home location register provides location information and routing information of mobile agents for receiving the request of location information to the service control device(ST6). The service control device detects a mobile agent nearest the terminal using agent information requested in the terminal and location information provided from the home location register and transmits routing information of the detected mobile agent to the mobile switch center or the gateway mobile switch center(ST7). The mobile switch center or the gateway mobile switch center transmits a call to the mobile agent through an visitor mobile switch center(ST8).
