Abstract: A natural antibacterial material which specifically acts against a pathogen in oral cavity is provided to raise the antibacterial activity to the microorganism in oral cavity without side effect. An antibacterial agent against harmful microorganism in oral cavity comprises a Caesalpinia sappan extract as an active ingredient. The antibacterial agent against harmful microorganism in oral cavity also comprises a brazilin isolated from the Caesalpinia sappan. The harmful microorganism is Streptococcus mutans which causes dental caries and Porphyromonas gingivalis which causes periodontal disease.

Abstract: An antibacterial composition containing medicinal plant extract is provided to stabilize the extract at high temperature without side effect and shorten extraction time. A medicinal extract which suppresses harmful microorganism in oral cavity is Curcuma aromatic extract, Melaleuca cajuputi extract, Psidium guajava extract or Stephania venosa extract. A method for manufacturing the medicinal extract comprises: a step of pulverizing dry sample of medicinal plant; a step of mixing with 100% ethanol and stirring for two days; a step of filtering with a filter paper(whatman No. 2) a step of removing solvent component by concentrating; and a step of freeze-drying.
