    Abstract: A method for preparing a clay compound modified with a silane compound is provided to obtain a polymer/clay nanocomposite having excellent tensile modulus and tensile elongation while maintaining high transparency, and useful for elastic bodies for absorbing vibration and impact in various types of industrial machines. A method for preparing a clay compound modified with a silane compound comprises the steps of: (i) adding a silane compound to an aqueous solvent, and adding an acid thereto to perform hydrolysis; and (ii) adding clay to the hydrolyzed silane compound solution and agitating the mixture, followed by drying. In step (i), the aqueous solvent is a mixed solvent of ethanol/distilled water. The acid used in the step (i) is selected from the group consisting of phosphoric acid, acetic acid and formic acid.
