    Abstract: A method for preparing an organic modifier-free exfoliated clay nanoparticle-polymer composite is provided to improve mechanical properties and thermal stability by removing an organic modifier from exfoliated clay nanoparticles. A method for preparing an organic modifier-free exfoliated clay nanoparticle-polymer composite comprises the steps of dispersing the laminated clay nanoparticles which are organically modified by the ion bonding with an organic modifier, in an acidic solvent, and dissolving a polymer in it; adding the obtained one in a polymer nonsolvent which does not dissolve the polymer and dissolves the organic modifier separated from the organically modified laminated clay nanoparticles; and separating an organic modifier-free exfoliated clay nanoparticle-polymer composite from the product.
