Abstract: A remote control system using infrared rays and a method for the same are provided to enable an infrared communication terminal to control operations of a control object device by transmitting a remote controller infrared signal to the control object device, thereby controlling a home appliance having no communication function through a remote control mode and reducing power consumption. A home server(100) receives a request and information about a control object device(400) and transmits the received information and request through a message. An interface(200) transmits control data for operations of the control object device corresponding to the message received from the home server. An infrared communication terminal(300) receives control data for operations of the control object device from the interface, and controls operations of the control object device by transmitting a remote controller infrared signal to the control object device. A remote controller(500) transmits the remote controller infrared signal corresponding to the operations of the control object device to the infrared communication terminal and to store the signal in the interface.
