    Abstract: A method for preparing a transgenic plant capable of producing higher level of total tocopherol, and the transgenic plant are provided to increase total tocopherol in plants by increasing contents of all tocopherol homologues so that vitamin E level in food is increased. The method for preparing a transgenic plant capable of producing higher level of total tocopherol comprises the steps of: preparing a recombinant vector containing homogentisate phytyltransferase(HPT) gene; and transforming a plant with the recombinant vector, wherein the recombinant vector is introduced into the plant by mediation of Agrobacterium sp., and the homogentisate phytyltransferase(HPT) gene is derived from Synechocystis as photosynthetic bacteria.
