Abstract: A single gap transflective liquid crystal display is provided to manufacture the single gap transflective liquid crystal display by making initial phase delay values of liquid crystal of a transmitting area and a reflecting area different, thereby removing complexity of the manufacture. A transparent electrode(3) of a conductive electrode type is coated on only a reflecting region of an upper glass substrate lower part. A common electrode(11) of the conductive electrode type is put on a transmitting area of the lower glass substrate upper part. The common electrode is coated only on the transmitting area. Also, the common electrode is coated on the reflecting area to control Cst as much as desired. The TFT can be placed in one of the reflecting area or a transmitting area because a pixel electrode and the reflecting electrode are directly connected.

Abstract: PURPOSE: A viewing angle control LCD using a single panel of an FFS mode is provided to control view angle of the LCD using single panel to wide-viewing angle and narrow visual field angle according to the use of a user without the reduction of the aperture ratio. CONSTITUTION: An upper plate(2) is located under an upper polarizing plate(1). A second common electrode(3) is located under the upper substrate. A vertical alignment layer locates under the second common electrode. A hybrid liquid crystal layer(4) locates under the vertical alignment layer. The top of the hybrid liquid crystal layer is perpendicularly aligned and aligns the lower part of the hybrid liquid crystal layer. The horizontal alignment layer locates under the hybrid liquid crystal layer.

Abstract: An electrowetting display device is provided to represent a clear image with vivid colors by arranging a color filter on a lower substrate. An electrowetting display device includes an upper substrate(1), a transparent electrode(2), a pixel wall(4), a water layer(3), a black oil layer(5), a hydrophobic insulator(6), RGB color filter regions(7,8,9), a reflective electrode(10), and a lower substrate(11). The plane type transparent electrode is arranged under the upper substrate. The pixel wall surrounds the water and oil layers under the transparent electrode. The water layer is arranged between the upper and lower substrates. The black oil layer is arranged under the water layer. The hydrophobic insulator is arranged under the black oil layer. Abstract: An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) for controlling a viewing angle is provided to adequately control a wide viewing angle and a narrow viewing angle of a predetermined screen by controlling a tilt angle of liquid crystal molecules through a vertical electric field. A first upper substrate is disposed under an upper polarizing plate. A first common electrode is formed under the first upper substrate. A horizontally aligned liquid crystal layer is disposed under the first common electrode and has a phase retardation value from 0.10 micrometer to 0.60 micrometer. A first lower substrate is disposed under the horizontally aligned liquid crystal layer. A first pixel electrode is disposed on the first lower substrate. A second upper substrate is disposed under the first pixel electrode. A second common electrode is formed under the second upper substrate. Abstract: 본 발명은 하이브리드 배향된 액정을 사용한 프린지 필드 스위칭(FFS: Fringe-Field Switching) 모드의 단일 패널을 이용한 시야각 조절 액정 표시 장치 대해 개시한다. 개시된 본 발명은 기존 FFS 모드의 전극구조에 상부기판에 상부 공통전극이 추가적으로 배치되어 있는 구조로, 하부기판의 액정들은 수평배열이고 상부기판의 액정들은 수직배열로 하이브리드 배향된 액정층으로 이루어져 있다. 하부 기판의 화소전극과 하부 공통전극에 의해 구동될 시에는 하이브리드 배열된 액정의 좁은 시야각 특성으로 인해 협시야각이 나타나고, 상부 공통전극과 하부 공통전극 사이의 발생한 수직 전기장에 의해 유전율 이방성이 음인 액정이 기판에 평행하게 누운 상태에서 하부기판에 위치한 화소전극과 하부 공통전극에 의해 구동 될 시에는 광시야각이 나타나게 되는 원리이다. 본 시야각 조절 액정 표시 장치는 단일 패널을 이용하였기 때문에 두께가 얇고, 경량이며, 개구율 감소 없이 시야각 조절이 가능하다는 것을 그 장점으로 한다.

Abstract: 본 발명은 패턴 된 수직배향(PVA: patterned vertical alignment) 액정디스플레이의 시야각 조절 장치에 관한 것으로, 소정 화상를 표현하는 전극과 시야각 조절용 전극을 하나의 기판에 따로 패턴 하는 방식을 적용하였다. 전극 구조에 있어서, 상부기판의 일부 영역에 소정화면을 표현하는 제 1 공통전극을 일반적인 PVA 모드의 전극을 패턴 하는 방식으로 형성하였고, 나머지 시야각을 조절하는 부분은 평면형태로 제 2 공통전극을 형성하였다. 이때, 두 공통전극은 연결되어 있다. 상부기판과 마주보도록 하부 기판이 대응되어 있고, 이 기판의 제 1 공통 전극과 마주보고 있는 일부 영역에 제 1 화소 전극이 상부 제 1 공통전극과 같은 방식으로 형성되어 있고, 제 2 공통전극과 마주보고 있는 나머지 영역에 제 2 화소 전극은 액정 방향자가 좌우나 상하로 눕도록 전극을 패턴하여 형성한다. 이러한 액정 표시장치의 제 1 공통전극과 제 2 공통전극에 같은 크기의 일정한 전압을 인가시키고, 제 1 화소 전극에 전압을 다양하게 인가함으로써 제 1 공통전극과 제 1 화소 전극의 전압 차에 의해 생기는 수직 전기장에의해 액정 디스플레이를 구현하고, 제 2 화소 전극에 전압을 조절함으로써 제 2 화소 전극과 제 2 공통전극의 전압 차에 의해 생기는 수직전기장에 의해 광시야각 또는 협소한 시야각을 적절히 조절할 수 있다.

Abstract: A fringe-field switching LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) is provided to minimize a degree of color shift in a viewing angle direction by differently patterning a size and direction of a pixel electrode of two domains. A lower substrate uses a transparent glass substrate or a plastic substrate. A common electrode(1) patterns a transparent electrode of a first layer, disposed in an upper part of the lower substrate, in a plane form. A pixel electrode(2) is patterned on the common electrode as leaving a space for an insulating layer so as for a second transparent electrode to have different angles and directions based on the center of a pixel horizontal direction. An inclination angle of the pixel electrode of one domain is about 1 to 44 degrees based on a gate bus line. An inclination angle of the pixel electrode of the other domain is about -2 to -45 degrees. The inclination angles of the pixel electrode of the two domains are asymmetric, and the pixel electrode is patterned to have a different absolute value. An upper substrates uses a transparent glass substrate or a plastic substrate. Horizontal LC alignment layers are coated on the both substrates and rubbed in opposite or the same direction. A cell gap between the upper and lower substrates is about 2-6mum. A retardation value of LC is about 0.2-0.5mum. A width of the pixel electrode is 2-10mum. A distance between the pixel electrodes is about 3-15mum. A thickness of the transparent electrode is thinner than 2000Å. A thickness of the insulating layer between electrodes is thicker than 1000Å. A polarizing plate where transmission axes are crossed is used for the upper and lower substrates. One of the two axes is consistent with an optical axis of the LC.

Abstract: A high aperture and wide viewing single gap transflective LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) is provided to improve an aperture ratio by disposing secondary capacitance in a voltage-reflectance curve, thereby maximizing aperture ratios of the voltage-reflectance curve and a voltage-transmittance curve. One pixel is divided into a voltage-reflectance curve and a voltage-transmittance curve. A cell gap of the voltage-reflectance curve and the voltage-transmittance curve is almost equally formed. A reflectance plate(2) functioning as a counter electrode and plural transparent pixel electrodes(4) of slit and bar types are formed in upper end of the voltage-reflectance curve as leaving a space for a passivation layer(3). A fringe field is formed according as a vertical filed component and a horizontal field component coexist when voltage is applied. In the voltage-transmittance curve, a pixel electrode of a plate shape is formed in a lower array substrate(1). In an upper substrate(9), a transparent counter electrode(8) is formed in a location of the voltage-transmittance curve. By coating vertical alignment layers to both of the upper and lower substrates, LC is vertically erected before applying initial voltage. The LC has negative dielectric anisotropy.

Abstract: A controllable viewing angle patterned vertical alignment LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) is provided to divide the area of a panel into an area for displaying a predetermined screen and an area for controlling a viewing angle.
