Abstract: The present invention relates to a communication system architecture which can perform integrated processing of different network protocols and multimedia traffics. The communication system for integrated processing of different network protocols and multimedia traffics comprises a common packet; a common packet switch; a plurality of channels; a common bus; a common protocol platform; an external network protocol converter; and an internal network protocol converter. Thus, the present invention can process traffics rapidly embodied by mean of hardware, and easily perform various QoS, traffic control, and so on by designing a unified common platform with an open architecture. In addition, the present invention can be used for digital consumer devices in building networks and home networks or various digital appliances classified as Internet information appliances, and for control systems such as a home gateway, a home server, an STB, a home station and so on.

Abstract: PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus are provided to allow for a high speed and large capacity processing by permitting a variety types of packets to be allocated and processed in each of channels. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus comprises a common packet(20) having a header and data value for processing multiple protocols; a common packet switch(40) for switching, browsing and routing packets; a channel for exchange of packets through the dedicated line for each type of packet; a pack common bus(30) for packet transmission between the common packet and the common packet switch; a common protocol platform(50) capable of performing a free topology so as to integrally processing different protocols and different packet formats; a WAN protocol converter(10) for converting the packet applied from a wide area network into a common packet; and a LAN protocol converter(60) for converting the packet applied from a local area network into a common packet.

Abstract: PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for switching a call between a VoIP call and a PSTN call are provided to allow a user to switch to a PSTN call for continuous call communication if speech quality of a VoIP call is not good. CONSTITUTION: An IP network interface unit(230) interfaces an RTP(Real-time Transport Protocol) packet and a VoIP signaling bi-directionally. A digital signal processor(220) extracts a compressed voice signal from the RTP packet, converts it into a PCM(Pulse Code Modulation) signal, compresses the PCM voice signal, carries it on an RTP packet, and then, outputs it to the IP network interface unit(230). A subscriber line interface unit(210) converts a voice signal into a PCM voice signal and provides it to the digital signal processor(220), and then, a PCM voice signal outputted by the digital signal processor(220) into an analog voice signal. A VoIP/PSTN switching module(200) is selectively connected to the subscriber line interface unit(210) and to the PSTN for call communication. A CPU(240) controls an overall operation of call communication through a VoIP call or a PSTN call. A subscriber input unit(250) inputs an operation command according to user's manipulation too the CPU(240).
