    Abstract: The present invention relates to a composition for prevention and treatment of stroke containing a Lindera erythrocarpa extract, a fraction thereof, or a compound isolated therefrom, as active ingredients. The Lindera erythrocarpa extract, the fraction thereof, or the compound isolated therefrom (methyl lucidone or methyl linderone) has no cytotoxicity to neurons, effectively inhibits neurotoxicity of microglia activated in stroke by effectively suppressing iNOS expression and NO generation in LPS-stimulated microglia; secretion of proinflammatory cytokines; and phosphorylation of ERK, p38, Akt, and the like and NF-κB signaling path, and exhibits neuroprotective effects against neuronal cell death.
