Abstract: PURPOSE: A sustained release formulation containing nicametate or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is provided to maintain constant blood glucose for 24 hours. CONSTITUTION: A sustained release formulation contains 10-70 weight% of nicametate or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and 5-50 weight% of hydrophilic polymer of hydroxypropylmethycellulose, polyethylene oxide, carbomer, or polyethylene glycol alginate. The sustained release formulation contains microcrystalline cellulose as an excipient. The pharmaceutically acceptable salt of nicametate is citric acid nicametate.
