Abstract: PURPOSE: A Jini lookup service providing method in a compact mobile terminal is provided to continually provide a Jini service by configuring a Jini network between compact mobile terminals even without a lookup service. CONSTITUTION: A light mobile lookup service executed in a compact mobile terminal has the minimum functions of a multicast, a unicast and announcement required when the mobile terminal looks for a general lookup service in a network and a function of transmission of its own registrar proxy. Other lookup service functions are optionally downloaded as necessary by modules in the mobile terminal and re-configured with the minimum functions. The optional modules are registered in a service form in another lookup service, that is, for example, in the general lookup service of the network. When the compact mobile terminal uses the lookup service, it downloads a required module from other lookup service. Accordingly, the mobile terminal operates both as a client of the lookup service and as a server.
