Abstract: PURPOSE: A secondary battery is provided to prevent capacity reduction and to improve charging and discharging performance and lifetime by using a negative electrode active material with a siloxane layer formed on the surface of a silicon-based particle, and electrolyte which comprises a silane-based compound together. CONSTITUTION: A secondary battery comprises a negative electrode which comprises: a negative electrode active material containing a silicon-based particle and a siloxane layer which is formed on the surface of the particle; a positive electrode; an electrolyte which comprises a first silane-based compound; and a separator. The silicon-based particle is selected from Si, Si-M alloy, SiOx, Si-carbon, Si-M-carbon, and SiOx-carbon. In Si-M alloy, M is one or more metals selected from Ni, Cu and Fe. In SiOx, 0.3ΔxΔ1.5.
