Abstract: A coloring composition and a color filter using the same are provided to obtain a highly heat-resistant and high-contrast coloring composition by using high-molecular-weight transparent resin of which the weight average molecular weight is within the range of 46000 to 80000 and the molecular weight distribution is within the range of 1.7 to 2.2. A coloring composition for a color filter contains transparent resin and a coloring agent. The weight average molecular weight of the transparent resin is within the range of 46000 to 80000. The molecular weight distribution of the transparent resin is within the range of 1.7 to 2.2. The transparent resin comprises N-substituted maleimide as a copolymer component. The N-substituted maleimide is cyclohexyl maleimide.
