Abstract: Provided is a black composition, which shows excellent light-shielding property and stability, and is useful for forming a black pattern on a black matrix of a color filter. The black composition comprises: (a1) carbon black having an average primary particle diameter of 8-20 nm; (a2) carbon black having an average primary particle diameter of 21-40 nm; (b) a pigment derivative; (c) a resin; and (d) a solvent, wherein the carbon black(a1) and the carbon black(a2) show a difference in average primary particle diameter of at least 5 nm. Additionally, the black composition contains no carbon black having an average primary particle diameter of greater than 40 nm.
