Abstract: A portable device has a camera section, display means where an image taken by the camera section can be displayed, a first housing with a first face where the display means is provided and a second face opposite the first face, a second housing that can be positioned above the second face of the first housing, a rotation shaft section supporting the second housing at the first housing so as to be rotatable about the rotation axis of the shaft, which axis is perpendicular to the first face of the first housing, and operation means with which at least either the camera section or the display section can be operated. The camera section has the optical axis and is capable of taking an image of an object in a shooting direction parallel to the optical axis. The rotation shaft section enables the camera section to be stowed such that the optical axis is parallel to the rotation axis and that the shooting direction is the same as the direction from the first face to the second face of the first housing. The operation section is provided at a part of the first face of the first housing, which part corresponds to the side opposite the shooting direction on the rotation axis of the rotation shaft section. The portable device is closable even when the camera section is long in the direction of the optical axis.
