    Abstract: PURPOSE: A composite coating layer containing certain volume fractions of aluminum based quasicrystalline alloy powder and metal, ceramic, cermet and plastic powders in a metal or intermetallic compound matrix to improve frictional and wear characteristics of machine, and a method for manufacturing the same are provided. CONSTITUTION: The composite coating layer containing quasicrystalline phase by thermal spray coating method is characterized in that the composite coating layer is formed by thermal spray coating a mixed powder obtained by mixing an aluminum based quasicrystalline alloy powder with at least any one powder selected from metal, intermetallic compound, ceramic, cermet and polymer powders on a metal or intermetallic compound matrix. The method for manufacturing a composite coating layer containing quasicrystalline phase by thermal spray coating method comprises a step of preparing a mixed powder by mixing an aluminum based quasicrystalline alloy powder with at least any one powder selected from metal, intermetallic compound, ceramic, cermet and polymer powders; and a step of forming a coating layer by thermal spray coating the mixed powder on a metal or intermetallic compound matrix, wherein the aluminum based quasicrystalline alloy is any one alloy selected from Al-Cu-Fe, Al-Cu-Fe-Be, Al-Cu-Fe-Cr, Al-Cu-Fe-Cr-B, Al-Cu-Fe-Si and Al-Ni-Co-Si, wherein the thermal spray coating method is a plasma thermal spray coating or HVOF thermal spray coating method, wherein the aluminum based quasicrystalline alloy powder is Al-Cu-Fe quasicrystalline alloy powder, and the metal powder is Sn, and wherein the aluminum based quasicrystalline alloy powder is Al-Cu-Fe-Si quasicrystalline alloy powder, and the cermet powder is WC/Co.
