Abstract: The method makes the end point of scanning of an image block and the start point of the adjacent block get closer to decrease the block boundary phenomenon caused by the spetial corelation between the adjacent blocks. The scanning direction is changed at every adjacent blocks so that the directions of adjacent blocks become symmetric. the circuit includes an A/D converter for converting the sampled analog image to the digital image, a block modulator for dividing the digital image to form image blocks, a symmetric block scanner for scanning the block symmetrically, and a coder (14) for coding the image vector transmitted by the block scanner (13).
