    Abstract: PURPOSE: A method for directly analyzing a biocompound in blood from a blood sample stained on paper is provided to directly analyze the biocompound and to enable quick and reproducible analysis. CONSTITUTION: A method for directly analyzing a biocompound from a blood sample on a sheet of paper comprises: a step of staining the blood sample on the paper; a step of applying alpha-cyano-4-hydroxy cinnamic acid onto the paper and crystallizing in a thin film form; and a step of detecting the biocompound in the blood using laser desorption/ionization-mass spectrometry. The biocompound contains choline or heme B. The crystallization is performed by spraying alpha-cyano-4-hydroxy cinnamic acid onto the blood sample. The thickness of the paper is 150-500 um.
