Abstract: Desulphurization of petroleum is carried out by reducing an organic sulphur component in the petroleum to the H2S gas by the use of an electrochemical energy and an electron medium, e.g. methyl viologen or benzyl viologen in the presence of the sulphate reducing bacteria. The reducing bacteria is pref. desulphovibrio hydrogenase or desulphovibrio desulphuricans KCTC 1907.
