    Abstract: A method for manufacturing a metal substrate coated with an alumina carrier is provided to improve adhesive property between gamma-alumina as a catalyst carrier and a metal substrate, simplify the manufacturing process, and reduce manufacturing cost and manufacturing time and form a thick film with a thickness of at least 10 mum by using inexpensive boehmite powder and gamma-alumina. A method for manufacturing a metal substrate coated with an alumina carrier comprises the steps of: adding nitric acid into a boehmite powder-dispersed solution to prepare a boehmite sol; adding gamma-alumina, an organic binder and a coupling agent into the boehmite sol and mixing the gamma-alumina, the organic binder and the coupling agent with the boehmite sol to prepare a slurry; coating the slurry on a metal substrate; and drying and heat-treating the slurry-coated metal substrate. The method comprises adding the nitric acid into the boehmite powder-dispersed solution in an amount range of 10 to 30 wt.% of the boehmite powder, and controlling the concentration of the boehmite sol to a range of 5 to 30 wt.% when preparing the boehmite sol. The method comprises controlling the amount of the boehmite powder to a range of 10 to 20 wt.% of the gamma-alumina. The gamma-alumina is added into the boehmite sol in an amount range of 50 to 75 wt.% of the boehmite sol. The coupling agent is added into the boehmite sol in an amount range of 0.005 to 0.1 wt.% of the boehmite sol. Further, the organic binder comprises a polyvinyl acetate, and the coupling agent comprises a silicon.
