Abstract: An augmented reality imaging system using a hand held mobile device is provided to overcome a restriction of a screen in the hand held mobile device like a portable phone or a PDA and to extend functionality of the hand held mobile device by providing a 3D augmented reality image for an LCD of the hand held mobile device. An augmented reality imaging system using a hand held mobile device comprises a portable terminal(140), an image acquisition unit(110), a memory, a marker image recognizer, an image processor(120) and a display(130). The portable terminal(140) provides plural marker images which expresses position information, enables a user to select at least one marker image via a user inputting unit, and displays the selected marker image. The image acquisition unit(110) acquires a real world image including the portable terminal(140). The memory stores plural 3D graphic images. The marker image recognizer recognizes the marker image displayed on the portable terminal(140) from the real world image. The image processor(120) forms the augmented reality image by synthesizing a 3D graphic image read form the memory on the real world image on the basis of the marker image. The display(130) displays the augmented reality image received from the image processor(120).
