    Abstract: A biomarker for detecting exposure to benzo[k]fluoranthene is provided to monitor and detect benzo[k]fluoranthene contamination in environmental sample and examine toxicity mechanism caused by benzo[k]fluoranthene. A biomarker for detecting exposure to benzo[k]fluoranthene comprises a gene whose expression is increased or decreased by the exposure to the benzo[k]fluoranthene. A DNA microarray chip is integrated with oligo-nucleotide comprising entire or a part of biomarker gene sequence or its complementary sequence. A method for detecting the exposure to the benzo[k]fluoranthene comprises: a step of collecting cell from a target; a step of RNA isolation from the collected cell as a experimental group and human cell untreated as a control group; a step of synthesizing the RNA of experimental group and control group with cDNA and probing with different fluorescence; a step of hybridizing the fluorescence attached cDNA with DNA microarray chip; a step of analyzing the DNA microarray chip; and a step of comparing expression level of biomarker with the control group and judging exposure to benzo[k]fluoranthene.
