Abstract: PURPOSE: The beta-glucogallin compound as an anti-oxidative is provided to separate and refine sweet brier extracts having anti-oxidative activation and the beta-glucogallin compound from the sweet brier extracts. CONSTITUTION: The production method has the steps of: soaking the upper part of a sweet brier in methanol; extracting repeatedly and concentrating to obtain methanol extracts; suspending it in distilled water; sequentially adding the organic solvents such as hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate and butanol to obtain the solvent extracts division corresponded; performing silica gel chromatography, ODS column chromatography, GPC column chromatography from the sweet brier extracts to separate and refine the beta-glucogallin.

Abstract: PURPOSE: Provided are beta-glucogallin compounds(formula 1) being useful as antioxidants that control active oxygen species in human body, such as superoxide anion radical, hydrogen peroxide and hydroxy radical. Also provided is a method for separating/refining the beta-glucogallin compounds from a Rosa rugosa extract by obtaining the Rosa rugosa extract from Rosa rugosa with an organic solvent. CONSTITUTION: i) soaking leaves (or dried leaves) of Rosa rugosa in methanol, repeating extraction once or more and concentrating the extract for obtaining a methanol extract; and ii) suspending the methanol extract in distilled water, extract the Rosa rugosa extract with hexane and extracting the water layer with an organic solvent selected from chloroform, ethylacetate and butanol.
