    Abstract: A method for preparing N-alkyl substd. amino methyl phosphonic acid derivs. of formula (I) comprises reacting triazine of formula (II) with tetrachlorotitanium and trialkyl phosphite of formula P(OR2)3 at -20 to 20 deg.C. In the formulas, R1= methyl, ethyl, isopropyl, n-butyl, n-octyl, n-octadecyl or cyclohexyl substd. C1-18 alkyl; R2=H, methyl or ethyl. Pref. the molar ratio of triazine:tetrachloro titanium:trialkylphosphite is 1:3:3. The cpds. (I) are useful as a flame retardant, an intermediate of dye and a herbicide.

    Abstract: A method for preparing N-phosphono methyl glycine of formula (I) comprises reacting 1,3,5-tri carboalkoxy methyl hexahydro-1,3,5-triazine of formula (III) with trialkylphosphite of formula P(OR')3 in the presence of a solvent and tetrachloro titanium and hydrolyzing the obtd. N-phosphono alkyl glycine ester of formula (II). In the formulas, R= methyl or ethyl; R'= methyl or ethyl. Pref. the solvent is selected from CH2Cl2, CHCl3, CCl4 or trichloroethylene. The cpd. (I) is useful as a herbicide.
