Abstract: Quinolone derivs. of formula (I) are prepd. by the cyclization of a cpd. of formula (II) in the presence of metal hydrides and organic solvents. In the formulas, R1 is halogen or substd. amino gp. e.g. pyrrolydinyl, imidazolyl, piperidinyl, piperazinyl, pyridyl etc.; R2= C1-3 alkyl; X= halogen. (I) are useful as potent antibacterials.
