Abstract: PURPOSE: An amorphous texture filtering device using an area occupation rate of sub-texel precision and a method thereof are provided to obtain high quality images by carrying out filtering by texel weight values, thereby reducing the computation cost and the hardware cost. CONSTITUTION: An amorphous texture filtering device using an area occupation rate of sub-texel precision includes a weight value generating unit(100) for generating a weight value from texture coordinates of footprint apexes, a texture memory unit(200) for providing texels required by the weight value generating unit, and a post-processing filtering unit(300) for carrying out filtering by applying the weight values of the texel values obtained from the texture memory unit.

Abstract: An anisotropic texture filtering method using area coverage weight of sub-texel precision includes the steps of executing filtering by applying weights to texels; representing four sides of the footprint by four linear equations for computing area coverage weight; obtaining sub-texel masks from a table by addresses given by values of line equations; and calculating the final area coverage weight with four sub-texel masks obtained in the previous step.
