Abstract: PURPOSE: A video on demand summary service system and a method thereof are provided to realize a customized video on demand summary service by generating a summary moving picture instantly. CONSTITUTION: An automatic indexing part(41) detects a shot boundary in a moving picture, detects a scene boundary by considering similarity of shots, and supplements the detection result manually as occasion demands. A contents information input part(42) inputs meter data related to the moving picture and high level contents information. A database(43) stores the related information. A summary shot collection generating part(44) analyzes a request of a user before reading necessary information from the database and generating a shot collection to be used for summary. A moving picture cut editing part(45) extracts parts necessary for the original moving picture by using shot collection information for generating a short summary moving picture.
