    Abstract: PURPOSE: A hybrid sun tracking controller for a solar collector is provided to use mid and high temperature solar heat by adopting an anemometer and an anemoscope as a protecting device for protecting a solar collector from the sudden change of surroundings. CONSTITUTION: A controller using a computer(10) or a microprocessor of a sun tracking controller calculates an azimuth angle and altitude of the sun by using latitude, longitude, and the current time at a mounting position of a solar collector. The calculated azimuth angle and altitude are transmitted to a servo motor controller(11) available for communicating with the controller. The servo motor controller drives a servo motor at a maximum allowable RPM(Revolutions Per Minute) by using a servo motor drive(12). Thereby, the solar collector is rotated in the incident direction of sunbeams. The collector continues sun tracking by using the calculated position and the input position of the sun from the sun tracking sensor so that sun tracking is exactly performed.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: A sun tracking sensor using photodiodes is provided to convert each position of photodiodes, a cylindrical sensor housing and the sun into analog or digital signals by checking the change of azimuth angles and the altitude of the sun as well as the emission of sunbeams. CONSTITUTION: A sun tracking sensor includes photodiodes and a cylindrical sensor housing. A sun tracking sensor controller converts an electric current of the photodiodes into voltage, converts the voltage into digital signals, and transmits the signals to a computer(34) according to demands of the computer. The sun tracking sensor checks the positional change of the sun according to the emission of sunbeams, the changes of azimuth angles and the altitude of the sun by using five photodiodes. A photodiode E(11) checks temporary cloudy days, a photodiode A and B(12) detect the change of the azimuth angle of the sun while the other photodiode C and D recognize changes in altitude. If the sunbeam incident to the sun tracking sensor has a slope in the normal direction of the sun tracking sensor, the photodiode A generates a larger amount of currents than the photodiode B. A solar collector is rotated for tracking the sun until two photodiodes generates the same amount of currents.
