Abstract: A method of estimating a state of charge of a battery relates to a method of estimating the state of charge (SOC) of a battery module having at least one battery cell through a battery management system (BMS) which includes (a) a step where a measuring unit included in the battery management system measures the off potential, which is the open circuit voltage of the battery cell; and (b) a step where a control unit of the battery management system estimates the state of charge corresponding with the off potential measured in step (a) based on a lookup table. The lookup table includes battery cell temperature, charging and discharging numbers and state of charge (SOC) corresponding with the off potential according to the discharge current amount.

Abstract: 배터리 충전상태의 추정방법은 적어도 하나의 배터리 셀을 포함하는 배터리 모듈의 충전 상태(SOC)를 배터리 관리 시스템(BMS)을 통해 추정하는 방법에 관한 것으로서, (a) 배터리 관리 시스템에 포함된 측정부가 배터리 셀의 순간 개방회로전압인 오프 전위(off potential)를 측정하는 단계와, (b) 배터리 관리 시스템의 제어부가 참조 테이블(lookup table)에 근거하여 (a) 단계에서 측정된 오프 전위에 대응하는 충전 상태값(SOC)을 추정하는 단계를 포함한다. 참조 테이블은 배터리 셀의 온도, 충전 및 방전 횟수, 및 방전 전류량에 따른 상기 측정된 오프 전위에 대응하는 충전 상태값(SOC)을 포함한다.

Abstract: A method of balancing cells of a battery module to save energy, which is a method of balancing voltages of at least two battery cells included in a battery module through a battery management system (BMS), comprises the steps of: measuring, by a measurement unit included in the BMS, an open circuit voltage(OCV), which is a charging voltage, of each battery cell; setting, by a control unit of the BMS, the minimum voltage among the measured open circuit voltages as a balancing voltage; and controlling, by the control unit of the BMS, a switch circuit included in a call balancing unit of the BMS based on the set balancing voltage, to let each of battery cells having open circuit voltages higher than the balancing voltage discharge current such that the battery cells can be balanced to have the balancing voltage and the discharged current can be delivered to a charging battery that is used as a power source for driving the BMS.
