    Abstract: PURPOSE: A cell search method in a wireless communication system is provided to detect a SSS(Secondary Synchronization Signal) sequence and a cross correlation by calculating a sequence in a corresponding sequence group. CONSTITUTION: Symbol timing and frequency synchronization are estimated by calculating the cross correlation between a PSS sequence which is a first synchronous signal and transmitted to a frame and the PSS(Primary Synchronization Signal) sequence already known. A cell ID is extracted through an estimation procedure(S10). A first cross correlation is calculated according to the PSS sequence which is a second synchronous signal and transmitted to the frame and a SSS(Secondary Synchronization Signal) sequence group(S20). A sequence group is selected(S30) A second cross correlation is calculated between all sequences belonging to a selected sequence group and the SSS sequence received(S40). A cell group ID is extracted through the sequence having the highest cross correlation(S50).
