CONSTITUTION: A pumping unit(408) generates a light of which a wavelength is shorter than a wavelength of an optical signal. An optical coupling unit(404) inputs the light generated in the pumping unit(408) into an optical line(402). An output fixing unit maintains constantly an intensity of an output optical signal of which a loss variation is compensated for by the pumping unit(408) and the optical coupling unit(404). The optical line(402) uses a Raman gain to compensate for the optical signal for the loss variation actively.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: A broadband optical link control apparatus is provided to restrain amplification characteristics change of an optical repeater by compensating a loss change of an optical transmission line and a loss spectrum change. CONSTITUTION: Pump lasers(211,213) with the same wavelength are coupled through polarization couplers(215,217) to obtain a high output pumping light and a gain independent on polarization. Pumping light sources of each wavelength are coupled to one optical fiber through a pump WDM coupler(218) and made incident on an optical transmission light connected to an optical connector(201) through a pump/signal WDM coupler(202), and then, the transmitting optical fiber is induced to Raman scattering. An output strength of the optical signal from the optical connector(206) is fixed by a value determined by a reference voltage(306). That is, the optical signal branched through a monitoring optical coupler(205) is converted to an electric signal, that is, a voltage, in an optical detector(301), and a difference value between the converted voltage and the reference voltage(306) is outputted from an attenuator(304), passes through an integrator(305), and is inputted to a variable optical attenuator(204). The variable optical attenuator(204) controls an attenuation rate in proportion to an output voltage of the integrator(305), so that the output strength of the optical signal transmitted to the optical connector(206) has a fixed value. A portion of the optical signal output which has passed through the pump/signal WDM coupler(202), an optical separator(203) and the optical attenuator(204) is outputted through the monitoring optical coupler(205).
