    Abstract: A sleep scheduling method based on the target direction in a sensor network is provided to reduce the number of waken sensor nodes. A sub tracking area for tracing a target is set up(S340). The distance between the outline of the sub tracking area and a sensor node which senses the target is in proportion to the movement probability and speed. The sleep patterns of sensor nodes within the sub tracking area are scheduled(S350).
